For over 40 years Thorn’s manufacturing plant has provided lighting solutions for its NZ customers. The factory and head office are located in Avondale, (West Auckland) with 35 full time staff employed in the various factory operations including powder coating, metal shop, fittings and warehousing.
When Sky City Casino needed a lighting solution for their lift lobbies, Thorn’s Design Engineering team worked with information provided by the project architects and consultants to provide some initial ideas. After several consultations our Research and Development team designed the Sky City LED, an efficient, recessed luminaire with a high level of luminance. The Sky City LED is designed to optimise LED heat management and provides 50,000 hours lifetime.
Three variations were designed by Thorn’s in-house team: the 25W, 100W and 125W. Each version is designed specifically to meet the unique measurements of the application and overcome the various obstacles in the recessed ceilings.
Thorn’s ability to design and manufacture locally meant we could provide a working sample for all parties to view and trial on-site.
A few minor adjustments later and our customer received a unique and final product ready for installation.
