Zumtobel Group Awards Nominees
The video provides an overview of the five nominees in the category Urban Developments & Initiatives of this year's Zumtobel Group Awards sponsored by Thorn Lighting. The category focuses on urban projects, ranging from city development and planning, to public space projects that enhance urban living. The video offers more information on the nominees which are:
ArchiAid, Sendai (JP) for "Architect Network to Support Reconstruction": This innovative programme brings together architects and residents to rebuild residential areas and attract industry in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Burgos & Garrido Arquitectos / Porras La Casta / Rubio & Á._Sala / West 8, for "Madrid Río". This project has taken Madrid's ring road underground, eliminating visible traffic, preserving the natural beauty of the Manzanares River and freeing up over 150 hectares of urban land.
Elemental, Santiago (CL), for "Pres Constitution": This sustainable reconstruction master plan was implemented after the city of Constitucion in Chile was hit by a tsunami in 2010. It includes a massive riverfront forest that will minimise the impact of future tsunamis.
Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto (JP), for "Megacity Skeleton": This housing prototype project aims to improve the living environment in high-density residential areas. The robust prototype homes have voids that allow sunlight to enter – improving residents' quality of life.
Turenscape, Beijing (CN), for "Qunli Stormwater Park": This project will situate a new wetland park in the centre of Qunli New Town in China. This will protect fragile ecosystems and enable residents and visitors to enjoy the natural environment from viewing towers and skywalks.
The winning project will be announced at the Zumtobel Group Award press conference in London on September 22nd.
