• An Excellence Award for the Lyttelton Tunnel project - In upgrading one of the country's most significant engineering projects, the design team showed attention to detail in the design process and recognised the client's need for a quality product and installation.
• The coveted IES/EECA Award -  Excellence for Energy Efficiency for a design which delivered significant energy savings to the client, as well as increased illuminance in the tunnel.
• An Award for Luminaire Design of the LED Emergency Exit Fitting - a practical, robust and high quality luminaire

Bayer Growers Stadium in Franklin also won a Commendation for its new stadium floodlighting. The judges recognised the challenge of lighting a rugby stadium where the demand for excellent lighting for television needs to be balanced with cost constraints and light pollution restrictions.

It is unusual for such a technically complex project to win a lighting award. This award is testament to the quality of Thorn's product and acknowledgement of Thorn's sports lighting designers who are among the most experienced in New Zealand.
