The Icelandic Illumination Engineering Society presented the first Icelandic Lighting Award on the 5th February during a ceremony at the Reykjavik winter festival. The award promotes outstanding lighting design in the built environment.

The first winners were Verkís Consulting Engineers, for the project Akratorg (Akra-square). The Lighting designers Guðjón L. Sigurðsson and Reynir Örn Jóhannesson from Verkís used 70W HIT-CE Legend post top lanterns with perforated optic and Contrast 2 LED RGB DMX from Johan Rönning and approved Thorn as distributor.

The project which was completed in October 2014 illuminates a statue in the town square of Akranes, 49km from Reykjavík. The thought behind the solution was to make the lighting adaptable to create atmosphere and effects to match different events and activities throughtout the year.

Verkís Consulting Engineers will now represent Iceland in the Nordic Lighting Award which takes place biannually.
